Origins
Christian Braun’s parents are Lisa and Donny Braun. He has two brothers, Parker and Landon. Parker played basketball for Missouri for two seasons and now plays for Santa Clara. His father was a former non-scholarship player at Kansas before transferring to St. Louis. His mother, Lisa Sandbothe, was a three-time All-Big Eight Conference selection while at Missouri between 1987 and 1991. Christian’s uncle, Mike Sandbothe, played for Missouri from 1986 to 1989, as did his aunt, Lori Sandbothe, from 1988 to 1990.

High school career
Christian Braun shone at Blue Valley Northwest High School in Overland Park. As a senior, he averaged 27.8 points, 9.3 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game. His school won three consecutive state titles in Class 6A. He was voted Mr. Kansas Basketball and Kansas Gatorade Player of the Year. He chose the University of Kansas, preferring other offers. On April 4, 2022, this date was declared “Christian Braun Day” by his school.
University career
As a freshman at Kansas, Braun averaged 5.3 points and 2.9 rebounds per game, making the Big 12 All-Freshman team. On November 27, 2020, he scored a personal-best 30 points in a win over Saint Joseph’s. As a sophomore, he averaged 9.7 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. As a junior, he was selected to the All-Big 12 second team. In the Final Four against Villanova, he reached the 1,000-point threshold in Kansas. In the final against North Carolina, he recorded a double-double, contributing to Kansas’ comeback. He defended North Carolina’s final three-point attempt, securing the victory and the NCAA title. On April 24, 2022, he declared for the 2022 NBA draft, forgoing his final year of college.

Braun was selected by the Denver Nuggets 21st overall in the 2022 NBA draft. On July 3, 2022, he signed his first professional contract.
