Origins

Brandin Podziemski is of Polish descent and has expressed interest in obtaining Polish citizenship in order to play for the Polish national team. Brandin is the son of John Podziemski and Barbara West. He has a younger sister, Gabriella Podziemski. Brandin’s father saw him becoming a baseball player.

Youth and high school

Brandin Podziemski played for St. John’s Northwestern Military Academy. By his sophomore year, he was named to the All-State first team. He repeated that performance in his third year. As a senior, Podziemski was named Wisconsin’s Mr. Basketball and Gatorade Player of the Year. He committed to the University of Illinois, choosing this offer over those from Kentucky and Miami, among others.

University career

Podziemski began his college career at Illinois. After one season, he transferred to Santa Clara. As soon as he arrived, he established himself as the starting fullback. He was named WCC Co-Player of the Year and received several other honors.

Professional career

The Golden State Warriors selected Podziemski with the nineteenth pick of the 2023 NBA draft. He signed a contract with the team on July 3, 2023. Podziemski turned in several remarkable performances, becoming the first Warriors rookie to reach 20+ points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists since Stephen Curry. He also set an NBA record for a rookie.
