Marcus Sasser is an American basketball player playing point guard in the NBA. He was born on September 21, 2000 in Dallas, Texas (USA). His height is 1m88. He plays for the Detroit Pistons.

Origins

Marcus Sasser comes from a family with close ties to basketball. His father, Marcus Sr. played basketball for Frank Phillips College. His uncles, Jeryl and Jason, were college All-Americans and played in the NBA. Marcus Sasser’s grandfather, John Barber, also played in the Great American League.

Successive teams

Marcus Sasser started out at high school in Red Oak, Texas. He was coached by his uncle, Jason. Distinguished MVP of his district and All-State in Class 5A, he chose Houston for college, preferring this option to other universities. He struggled at first, but quickly established himself on the Houston team. In his first season, he shone with his performances, notably against SMU with 26 points. Named to the AAC All-Freshman team, he continued to progress in his second year. He helped Houston reach the Final Four of the NCAA Tournament. An injury cut short his 2021-2022 season. He led his team with 17.7 points per game. Sasser was selected 25th overall by the Memphis Grizzlies in the 2023 NBA draft, before being traded to the Detroit Pistons.
