Origins
Kevin Love is the second of Karen and Stan Love’s three children. He grew up in Lake Oswego, Oregon, where he was childhood friends and teammates with Klay Thompson. As a child, he practiced bouncing passes with a cardboard box and studied Wes Unseld tapes. His father, Stan, is a former NBA basketball player. He encouraged his son to develop his dribbling as well as his outside shooting skills.

Kevin Love played for the Lake Oswego Lakers in high school. By his sophomore year, he was averaging 25.3 points and 15.4 rebounds per game. He led his team to the state championship final in 2005. After leaving Nike’s AAU team to attend a Reebok camp, he joined the Southern California All-Stars. As a senior, he averaged 33.9 points and 17 rebounds per game, leading his team to another state final. Considered one of the top recruits, Love chose UCLA for his college career, rejecting other major offers.
University career
At UCLA, Kevin Love had a remarkable season, meeting basketball legends for advice. Despite tensions with Oregon fans, he excelled on the court, leading UCLA to several titles and a berth in the Final Four of the NCAA tournament.
NBA
Kevin Love was selected by the Memphis Grizzlies in the 2008 NBA draft, then traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves. He became a star in Minnesota, leading the league in rebounds and winning the Most Improved Player award. After several successful seasons, he joined the Cleveland Cavaliers, helping them win the NBA Finals in 2016.
