Origins

Jaden Ivey is the son of Niele Ivey, head coach of the women’s basketball team at Notre Dame. His mother played in the WNBA for five seasons. Jaden’s father, Javin Hunter, played in the NFL for the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers. His grandfather, James Hunter, also played American soccer, for the Detroit Lions.

Successive clubs

Ivey explored several sports before concentrating on basketball in high school. After three years at Marian High School, he joined La Lumiere School, a renowned program. Recruited as a consensus four-star, he chose Purdue, preferring this option to Butler and Notre Dame.

NCAA

His first season at Purdue is marred by a foot injury, but he comes back strong, notably with a decisive three-point shot against Ohio State. As a sophomore, his performances improve, leading him to such honors as First Team All-Big Ten and All-American Second Team, before declaring for the 2022 NBA draft.

Selected fifth overall by the Detroit Pistons, Ivey shines in his Summer League debut. He continues his momentum into the regular season, quickly setting personal bests, including 37 points against the Kings in 2024.

Ivey represented the USA at the FIBA U19 World Championship in 2021. His contribution contributed to his team’s gold medal success. Ivey was named to the tournament’s All-Tournament Team.
