Origins

Dyson Daniels’ father, Ricky Daniels, played basketball for NC State before starting a professional career. His mother, Brikitta Kool-Daniels, played volleyball. He also has two brothers: Kai Daniels and Dash Daniels. Kai, his elder brother, plays for Regis University in Denver. While Dash, his younger brother, looks set to follow a similar professional path.

Youth

Dyson Daniels started playing basketball at the age of 7. He played for the Bendigo Braves, his father’s team. He later joined the NBA Global Academy in Canberra, helping Victoria to a silver medal at the Australian Under-20 Championships in 2021.

Professional career

In June 2021, Daniels signed with the NBA G League Ignite development team, turning down offers from universities and the National Basketball League’s Next Stars program. Participating in the Rising Stars Challenge at NBA All-Star Weekend 2022, he helped his team win the title. In 26 G League games, he averaged 12 points, 7.1 rebounds, 5.1 assists and two steals per game. In April 2022, he declared for the 2022 NBA draft.
The New Orleans Pelicans selected him eighth overall in the 2022 NBA Draft. Daniels joined the Pelicans’ 2022 Summer League team, but a sprained right ankle forced him to forfeit the rest of the competition. In July 2022, he signed a rookie contract with the Pelicans.

National selection

Dyson Daniels represented Australia at the 2018 FIBA Oceania Under-15 Championship in Papua New Guinea. In February 2021, at the age of 17, he made his debut with the Australian senior team in the FIBA Asian Cup qualifiers, scoring 23 points against New Zealand.
