Origins
Ausar Thompson was born to Maya Wilson and Troy Thompson. His identical twin brother, Amen, was born a minute before him. They share the middle name “XLNC”, which is pronounced “excellence”. His uncle, Mark Thompson, represented Jamaica in the 400-meter hurdles at the 1992 Summer Olympics. Ausar and Amen began training in basketball under their father at the age of seven.

High school career
Thompson moved to Fort Lauderdale to play high school basketball a year early at Pine Crest School. From the start, he shined, quickly becoming a star on the team. As a junior, he helped his team win the Class 4A state championship, sharing the title of Broward County Player of the Year with his brother Amen. Considered a five-star recruit, Thompson received offers from several college programs before choosing not to play college basketball.
Professional career
Thompson signed with Overtime Elite (OTE), a professional league for players aged 16-20, forgoing his senior year of high school and college. He was named MVP of the league finals, leading his team to the championship title. As captain of the City Reapers, he was named OTE season MVP, as well as Finals MVP.
Detroit Pistons (2023-present)
Selected by the Detroit Pistons with the fifth overall pick in the 2023 NBA draft, Thompson made his NBA debut by setting a rookie record with at least five blocks. He was also part of the team during a difficult season, marked by an NBA-record losing streak.
