Origins
AJ Green is the son of Kyle Green and Michele Green. His father, Kyle, is an assistant basketball coach at Iowa State. Prior to that, he was an assistant coach and then associate coach at Northern Iowa. Kyle played NCAA Division III basketball for Hamline University before spending a professional season in Denmark, where he also began his coaching career. His mother, Michele, played basketball for Hamline and is a chiropractor. His younger sister, Emerson, played basketball for Cedar Falls High School and now plays at Northern Iowa.

High school career
AJ Green shone at Cedar Falls High School, becoming the school’s leading scorer. He led his team to a state title, averaging 26 points per game as a senior.
Recruitment
Considered a four-star recruit, Green was the #78 player in ESPN’s 2018 class. He chose Northern Iowa, where his father was on staff. Green became the highest-ranked recruit in program history.
University career
As a freshman, Green averaged 15 points per game. He was named MVC Freshman of the Year. As a sophomore, he became MVC Player of the Year, averaging 19.7 points. After considering the 2020 NBA draft, he returned for his junior season. However, hip surgery cut his season short. Green ended his college career with a second selection as MVC Player of the Year.
Professional career
Undrafted in 2022, Green signed a two-way contract with the Bucks. After a promising Summer League debut, he signed a standard contract with Milwaukee in 2023. AJ Green has demonstrated a remarkable ability to adapt and evolve, going from a high school star to a promising professional player with the Bucks.
